Vic Firth drumsticks pair with teardrop tip from the American Classic Hickory Series. X- or "Extreme" sticks are longer versions of the respective type. The length difference is approximately equal to the length of a tip. So X5A's are a longer version of regular Vic Firth 5A and provide just a little more reach.
Like the common 5A, this X5A has a teardrop tip and is made of hickory; a hard, strong wood and therefore very suitable material for a drum stick in the broad sense and application.
