There's a nice history and story behind Tokai guitars. This Japanese guitar company gained popularity back in the mid 80's / early 90's when -according to many players around the world- both Fender and Gibson living up to their reputation; guitarists found strong alternatives in company's like Ibanez, Yamaha and...Tokai.
For years, Tokai wasn't imported back into Europe and so the instruments disappeared off the radar which made them collectable and iconic as many guitar players still know the extraordinary quality of the guitars. And Tokai has actually continued to live up to that reputation!
Just check out the relative hi-end specs of this Chinese made ES78, an ES335 model; laminated maple front, back and side, one-piece set maple neck, carbonized Jatoba fingerboard with 12" radius, Tune-o-Matic bridge, Tokai vintage sounding humbuckers, 2 volume and 2 tone controls. That, at this price point, is pretty impressive! This one gives you all the smooth and slick tones you would expect from a serious ES style guitar. So good!
