The sound of analog (vintage) bucket brigade delays from the 70s / early 80s is unmistakably characteristic. The specific op-amp technique used in that type of delay provides a very warm and natural sound of the delay repeats with each repeat a little grittier. As if a bucket of water is passed through a row of people from which more and more water spills. Hence bucket brigade.
The Brigadier is Strymon's ode to this style of delay effect. And the statement "better than the original" is actually quite accurate!
Better, in the sense that the control over the delay is uncompromising; time is infinitely adjustable within three time sections (short / med / long). Bucket loss lets you set the degree of "deterioration" of the delay repeats and with "mod" you add a nice touch of modulation. In addition, the Brigadier features a tap tempo footswitch and a subdivision of quarter, dot and triplet notes for the time set.
As befits a bucket brigade style delay, the Brigadier also kicks into oscilation at a repeat setting starting at 3:00. This (or any other pot-meter) would be a cool feature to control with the expression pedal connection! And finally, this delay can be used in full stereo.
