Dingwall Combustion 5-3, maple toets, 2-Tone Blackburst

Besides the prestigious Canadian custom shop instruments, Dingwall also offers a range of basses in the more affordable "Ready to Play" series. There, you'll find three models; Combustion, Combustion NG and the D-Roc. The "regular" Combustion (the Combustion NG is the Adam "Nolly" Getgood signature model) can be considered to be the most versatile "centre-piece" of the collection.
The body is made of swamp ash and has -in most cases- a quilt maple veneer top. The neck is made out of five-piece maple and has either a maple or a pau ferro fingerboard, nickel frets and needless to say it has a multiscale arrangement. Standard on all Combustions is the active EMG pre amp with -two or three- Dingwall FD-3N pickups. The two pickup configurations can either be set-up as a humbucker (lined up next to each other) or as a Jazz Bass (like Dingwall's Super-J). Combustion basses are available as 4, 5 or 6-string.
Compared to the NG, the regular Combustion is the versatile one of the two and works perfectly in a variety of genres; the combination of the tonewoods and the EMG pre-amp makes for a richer and wider sound palette, while the NG is great when your looking for a pointy and aggressive tone (great for the application the NG was designed for; metal). Besides that, the Combustion is definitely has a more traditional look and is available in several stylish bursts.
Either way, the bass response and tightness is insane with any Dingwall due to the multiscale arrangement.
