The cardioid TLM 103 uses a proven transformerless circuit used in high-end Neumann microphones to achieve the otherwise unattainable low self-noise and highest possible sound pressure levels. By focusing on this pattern - used in most recording situations - the attenuation of unwanted noise from behind is optimized. Off-axis sounds are reproduced naturally while isolation is increased. This also leads to high feedback suppression when the microphone is used in live situations or where speaker playback is involved. The TLM 103 is addressed from the front, marked with the red Neumann logo on the microphone housing. The K 103 large-diaphragm capsule is based on the K 87, known from the U 67 / U 87 microphones. The capsule has a flat frequency response up to about 5kHz, and above that a wide flat 4dB presence boost. he large mesh grill protects the capsule from plosive noise and effectively prevents plop noise. These characteristics are achieved without the use of corrective resonance effects. Therefore, the TLM 103 maintains excellent impulse response and reproduces the details of music and speech without coloration. Thanks to the TLM 103's incredibly low self-noise level, even the smallest signals are reproduced noise-free. Since the TLM 103 can handle sound pressure levels of up to 138 dB without distortion, it has a dynamic range of 131 dB (A-weighted).Neumann's "TLM" technology
