The Milab VIP-60 large-diaphragm condenser studio microphone is the successor to the famous VIP-50. 37 years after the introduction of its predecessor, this updated design features a new capsule and optimized circuitry to bring the sound of the classic VIP-50 into the 21st century. The main difference from its predecessor is the reduction of its own noise (self-noise).

The sound
The VIP-60 is (like the VIP-50) a rich, neutral microphone that can be categorized as "vintage" by today's standards. It has a similar sonic spectrum to classic pencil condenser such as the Neumann KM84 or even a classic ribbon microphone - not that it sounds like either, just that it captures sound similar to both, with none of the sounds being pushed or hyped. You might label the VIP-60 as dull or even warm, but actually it is the neutrality of the microphone that creates this perception. Our Klundert Music enginears see two personalities in the VIP-60; in wide-cardioid and omni modes, the recording sounds open and dimensional.

You may know the Milab VIP-50 from Quincy Jones during Michael Jackson's Dangerous sessions and at the time found its way onto records by Ray Charles, Jeff Buckley and Drake, among others. The Milab VIP series has more than earned its place in the pantheon of legendary microphones!

Appearance
A striking feature of its appearance is the sparkling Nextel metallic finish (by the way, the microphone is also available to order in black). Its distinctive shape makes it easy to place the grill against a sound source (such as a guitar cabinet).

Features
The 200 and 500 Hz roll-off filters are great for eliminating the proximity (proximity) effect at close-miking sources (such as a guitar amp or double bass). The VIP-60 offers five different polar patterns and pre-attenuation (pre-attenuation) pads. Below the buttons is a red light for phantom power. It comes in a waterproof SKB 3i case with a Rycote InVision USM shockmount. Factory-tuned matched pairs are available.

So the VIP-60 is the sound of the classic VIP-50, but with less self-noise. The microphone still has the unique sound with its ribbon-like warmth and sparkling treble - and, of course, the extremely good off-axis response.
