At the 2016 NAMM, Yamaha presented this powerful new Synthesizer Workstation that takes the immensely popular predecessor 'Motiv XF' and makes everything even more awesome with lots -no, lots, lots, lots, lots- of new functionality and features. Yamaha is taking a giant leap forward in virtual instruments.
For the sounds, Yamaha is using two engines: the AWM2 and the FM-X module.
The AWN2 engine is compatible with the existing Motiv libraries, but is exponentially more powerful than the previous flagship model with almost ten times more wave memory, integrated flash, twice as many effects and twice the polyphony of the Motiv XF. WOW!
The FM-X module is a highly advanced and pure Frequency Modulation synthesizer engine. It creates classics '80s sounds as well as fresh and innovative EDM sounds with fantastic dynamics, power and intelligibility. A party to experiment with and to work with.
For the controls, Yamaha has opted for a brand new interface with a clear touch screen, endlessly rotating sound parameters and something completely new: Yamaha calls it the "Super Knob."
The Super Knob is a macro control with which you can control multiple parameters simultaneously. For example, you can move the PAN of a sound from left to right with L44 as the start point and R100 as the end point while the high-pass will be less and less violent with a free choice of start and end point there too. This way you could add even more effects and control them all at the same time. Never before have you been so free to combine effects. You can control the knob with an FC7 foot controller, so you can control it even when playing with two hands. Handy!
