Hagstrom 67 Viking II Wild Cherry

The '67 Viking II is the ressue of the original Viking II as it was first released on the market in 1967. It was two years before, 1965, when Hagstrom released the Viking for the first time and it immediately became the most popular Hagstrom model on the market. The original "Mark II" was embrased by many icons of that time like Elvis Presley. On appearance alone, the Viking II steals hearts! Its thin hollowbody, 6-inline headstock, mini humbuckers and golden hardware are just sexy as hell and make this a very appealing instrument but to be completely honest; this is not a guitar for everyone! It is in fact a very specific guitar in terms of specs, feel and sound.

For starters, the Viking II is constructed as a thin, full hollowbody guitar (unlike the regular Viking which has a centre-block hollow body). The combination of this construction and the characteristic mini humbuckers result in a very typical retro sound. If you're looking for that retro Americana / rock sound like The Black Keys or Jack White and are you into vintage Japanese or Eastern European "cult-guitars" like Teisco, than you will love the '67 Viking II reissue. When it comes to playabillity, it is important to note that this guitar has a nut width of only 40.5 mm and thus a narrow stringspacing. So if you have big hands, you might have difficulty playing this guitar!

For the design of the necks, Hagstrom went back to the drawingboard; the maple neck has a so-called "Resinator" fingerboard. This is a composit wood that has all the properties as ebony wood in term of sound and color, but is superior in terms of density, uniformity and stability. Furthermore, all Hagstrom is fitted with a unique "H-Expander" trussrod; a H-shaped rod that is extremely stiff but lightweight at the same time. The most important specs summed up: - maple, slim full hollow body - maple neck, 24.75" scale - resinator fingerboard - 40.5 mm / 1.59" nut width - H52 Alnico 5 pickups (coil split) - Hagstrom tailpiece, gold hardware.
