The BOSS DB-90 is more like a metronome. The built-in sounds and drum patterns allow you to practice and improve in a simple and musical way. One of the most notable things is the rhythm coach that indicates when you are playing out of rhythm and where you are going wrong

It also includes reference tones that allow you to optimally tune your instrument to certain notes so you can make adjustments even on location. Options such as MIDI/instrument input, connecting a foot pedal, internal speaker and headphone output are also included.
