Guitars are sensitive to the level of humidity in the air, or rather; dryness. In particular, guitars made of solid wood can "work" severely if the humidity in the room where the guitar is kept is too low; a humidity of at least 40% but preferably 50% is advisable. If the climate is too dry, problems can arise such as solid tops bulging or cracking, extreme neck work, frets "working their way out" of the fretboard, etc.
A godsend is this humidifier from Boveda. Simply insert the humidifier and the rest happens automatically! Boveda's unique pouches have an osmotic membrane that automatically releases moisture to the environment - with a constant 49% relative humidity. What's special is that the membrane works in both directions, so excess moisture is also reabsorbed. Refilling is not necessary. When the pouch becomes hard and dry, simply replace it with a new one.
