Awesome!!! The Crazy Tube Circuits Hi Power is a dual overdrive/amp-in-a-box with a Hiwatt tube amp on the left and a Colorsound Power Boost on the right. And that may look familiar to you. Not surprising since David Gilmour used this combo on Pink Floyd's album Wish You Were Here, the sounds and possibilities are almost endless.
The original Colorsound Power Boost produces both a transparent "clean boost" and an all-encompassing fuzz. Crazy Tube has attempted to clone the original unit including the BC184 transistors operating at 18 volts. The highly flexible 2-band "Baxandall" EQ circuit adds "highs" and "lows." Although the original did not have a master volume control, there is one on this pedal. Later versions of the Power Boost (the gray one) had less headroom and are also selectable via a switch (PWR-ODR).
On the left side of this pedal is a full analog circuit based on the sound and feel of a Hiwatt amp. From high-headroom "cleans" to ripping "crunch" tones. Crazy Tube has incorporated the full EQ section down to the smallest detail and expanded it with a "presence" control. A headroom switch allows you to choose from the high headroom 100w with 4 x EL34s (think Hiwat DR103), or the lower headroom and compression delivered by a 50W with 2 x EL34s (think DR504). The design is further enhanced by a switch that allows you to select the amp's input channels: the normal channel or the bright channel.
There is also a passive effects loop built in that allows you to connect effects pedals between the booster/overdrive and the amp-in-a-box. Furthermore, you can also use the two effects separately and independently (when using an external switch). Gilmour fans will love adding their Big Muff, Tube Driver and Phase 90. Note that all pedals contained in the passive effects loop are always present in the signal chain even when both sections are turned off.
The pedal is powered by a standard 9 volt center negative power supply (not included).
