EarthQuaker Devices describes its Towers pedal as a "Soundscape Generator. Simply put, if you're looking for massive, atmospheric sound textures, this pedal deserves a permanent place on your pedalboard. The Length, Frequency, Mix and Filter knobs allow you to explore the digital depths of your generated soundscapes. Plus, Towers lets you switch between Manual, Envelope and LFO filter options via a 3-position mode switch, while the Stretch footswitch slows down the processor, allowing you to double the reverb and introduce lo-fi, pitch-bent artifacts. You also get eight presets to summon your favorite snapshots of aural alchemy, as well as an Expression jack and a full stereo signal from input to output.

  • Stereo effect pedal that combines infinitely repeating micro echoes, cathedral-like reverb and a resonant LPF
  • 3-position mode switch switches between Manual, Envelope and LFO filter options
  • The Length knob controls the duration of the reverb
  • Frequency knob determines the filter frequency based on the selected mode
  • Mix knob controls the balance between your wet and dry signals
  • Filter knob controls how much resonant LPF is mixed into the reverb channels
  • Stretch footswitch slows the processor to double the reverb duration, enabling lo-fi, pitch-bent artifacts
  • 8 user-assignable presets allow you to save and recall your most cherished settings
  • Expression jack provides additional control using an external pedal

Create striking harmonic resonance

Towers extends its stereo reverb effect with a resonant lowpass filter - a regular feature of synthesizers - that lets you create warm, resounding sounds that add a dark atmosphere to reverberant echoes. The pedal's Mode switch gives you a choice of three distinctly different filter modes. Manual mode lets you adjust the filter frequency directly via the Frequency knob, creating contrasting movements between the left and right channels. Envelope mode converts your playing dynamics into filter movements, with each note becoming a catalyst for harmonic resonance, while the Frequency knob maintains proper sensitivity. Finally, LFO mode uses a slow-moving oscillator that swings through the stereo field, with the Frequency knob controlling the speed at which it moves back and forth.

Space and time are just suggestions

With EarthQuaker Devices' Towers pedal, traditional concepts of space and time become mere suggestions that you can manipulate as you see fit. For example, a simple press of the Stretch footswitch slows the processor speed, doubling the length of the pedal's reverb effect, pulling apart the delay lines, blurring the filter and lowering the frequency response. What does this mean? It becomes lo-fi - really lo-fi. You'll enjoy the unique ambient atmospheres and unpredictable pitch-bent artifacts that are introduced, whether you tap the Stretch footswitch for an immediate effect or hold it down for a full trip of delightfully unsettling sonic cacophony. Worried you won't be able to recreate your favorite sound? You don't have to - the Towers features eight user-assignable presets, allowing you to save and recall your most beloved settings at the turn of a knob and the flick of a switch.
