The Sessiondesk SBX core is a modular, broadband acoustic absorption panel designed for studios, project studios, vocal booths, podcast studios, mixing rooms, voice-over rooms, and creative workspaces. This panel is a key component of Sessiondesk’s SessionbloX system and is designed to specifically improve a room’s acoustics. Think fewer reflections, less distracting reverberation, and more control during recording, mixing, producing, and content creation.

With the SBX core, you can build an acoustic solution that adapts to your space and workflow. You can use the panel freestanding, place it horizontally or vertically, and combine it with other SBX panels. For example, you can create a recording corner, a temporary partition, a vocal booth, or a mobile gobo (movable screen). Thanks to the SBX X-connector system, you can connect and rearrange panels without tools.

For broadband absorption in studios and recording spaces
The SBX core is designed for broadband absorption. This means the panel not only tames high frequencies but also works in the midrange and low-mid frequencies. When freestanding, the SBX core is effective down to approximately 100 Hz. This makes the panel a good choice for spaces where more acoustic control is needed than what lightweight foam panels or decorative absorbers can provide. In a mixing room, the SBX core can help reduce early reflections at the listening position. In a recording environment, you can use the panel, for example, around a microphone, behind a vocalist, next to a guitar amplifier, or as a divider between instruments. The SBX core also ensures a more direct and controllable sound for podcasts, livestreams, and voice-overs.

The Sessiondesk SBX core operates on the principle of amultilayer porousabsorber. The panel is constructed from multiple layers that together absorb and convert acoustic energy. This construction makes the SBX core suitable for broadband absorption in spaces where speech, vocals, instruments, and monitors need to be better controlled. Thanks to its 12 cm thickness and freestanding design, the panel not only works on the front but also benefits from absorption through the back and edges. This makes the SBX core an attractive option as a standalone absorber, a mobile gobo, or part of a larger acoustic structure.

Modular SessionbloX system
The SBX core is part of the SessionbloX system. This system is designed as a series of building blocks for acoustic treatment. You can start with one or a few SBX core panels and later expand with additional panels or accessories. With multiple SBX core panels, you can build, for example, an acoustic wall, a vocal booth, a mobile room divider, or a gobo setup on wheels. For permanent installation, there are SBX add-ons for wall and ceiling mounting. For mobile or freestanding applications, feet and wheels are available. This allows you to adapt the acoustic treatment to the room, the session, and the recording source.

Quick assembly without tools
An important part of the system is the SBX X-connector. This allows you to quickly connect SBX panels together without screws, drilling, or tools. This is convenient in studios used for various applications. One day you build a vocal booth; the next day you use the same panels for reflection treatment around a drum recording, podcast desk, or mixing position. Because the panels can be used freestanding, you don’t have to drill directly into walls or ceilings. This makes the SBX core suitable for rental properties, project studios, temporary studios, and spaces that are regularly reconfigured.

Material Selection The Sessiondesk SBX core is constructed from a PET front, a natural wood fiber core, and a birch plywood frame. The PET front is made from at least 60 percent recycled plastic bottles. The internal absorber layer consists of 100 percent natural wood fiber from the Black Forest and contains no mineral wool or synthetic foams. The PET front is dust-repellent, easy to clean, moisture-resistant, and bacteria-resistant. Additionally, it is free of VOCs, formaldehyde, phenols, and phthalates. This is ideal for spaces where you work, record, or listen for extended periods. The wood fiber insulation is Natureplus-certified and recyclable.

Finish and Aesthetics The SBX core features a birch plywood frame with a Sessiondesk 90s black finish. Combined with the PET front, the panel achieves a modern studio aesthetic that fits well in control rooms, production studios, podcast studios, and creative workspaces. Extra colored lasso straps in Fibrous Green and Agate Grey are included as standard. These allow you to customize the panel’s look. Additional color options are available through the Custom Shop, so you can better match the SBX core to your studio interior or brand identity.

Also handy for planning your acoustics
Sessiondesk also offers a Room Acoustics Calculator & 3D Visualizer for the SessionbloX series. This allows you to calculate approximately how many panels you need and how to place them in the room. This is useful when you want to treat an entire studio, control room, vocal booth, or podcast environment.

Who is the Sessiondesk SBX core suitable for?
The Sessiondesk SBX core is suitable for producers, engineers, musicians, vocalists, voice-over artists, podcasters, content creators, and studio owners who want to improve their acoustics without immediately building a permanent installation. The panel is well-suited for use in small project studios, professional studios, home studios, rehearsal spaces, edit suites, and broadcast environments. Use a single panel to address a reflection point, place multiple panels around a microphone, or build a larger setup for recording and mixing. Thanks to its modular design, the SBX core remains flexible, even if your studio changes later.
