SSL Super 9000

The Solid State Logic Super 9000 puts the legendary SSL sound at the fingertips of studios large and small. This high-performance channel strip combines discrete SuperAnalogue and VHD mic preamps, a 4-band G- and E-series EQ, a 9000/Duality dynamics section and extensive sidechain features in one uncluttered 1HE enclosure. The Super 9000 incorporates the best SSL technology, based on decades of experience with the iconic mixing consoles that have dominated the world's recording studios. Just like on a Duality console, you can choose between the transparent SuperAnalogue preamps or the VHD circuit, which allows you to enrich signals with harmonics and analog warmth.

Choose your preamp: SuperAnalogue or VHD with Drive control
The Super 9000 offers the same flexibility as an SSL Duality console. With VHD mode, you determine the balance between 2nd- and 3rd-order harmonics via the variable Drive control. The former provides a warm, tube-like response, while the latter delivers a tighter, transistor-like sound. Thanks to the Input Flip button, you can also use the VHD circuit on the Line input, ideal for treating DAW voices with additional harmonic color.

Switchable "Pink Knob" and "Black Knob" EQ
The Super 9000 features two classic SSL equalizers: the 292 G-series "Pink Knob" and the 242 E-series "Black Knob." The 292 variant has a variable Q factor: small boosts or cuts produce wider curves, while larger adjustments produce narrower Q. The 242-EQ operates with a constant Q, ideal for precise sound sculpting. The 292's high and low shelving filters also have a steeper response and the typical "overshoot/undershoot" characteristic that many engineers consider very musical.

Expanded tone control
In the EQ section, you'll find additional switches for even more control. In 292 mode, you can expand the frequency ranges of the center bands via the "E Bell/G÷3" and "Gx3/E Bell" knobs. In 242 mode, these knobs switch the low and high bands between Bell and Shelving character. The EQ can be placed in the dynamics sidechain as desired. In addition, the Super 9000 has a high-pass filter (18 dB/oct) and low-pass filter (12 dB/oct), which are completely bypassed when the Gain control is set to zero. The filters can be switched on separately in the input section or in the dynamics sidechain.

9000/Duality dynamics section
The Super 9000 uses the same high-quality SSL compressor/limiter as the SL 9000 and Duality consoles, built around the THAT 2181A-VCA. The compressor features a switchable fast attack mode and Peak Detect option for precise control. The Expander/Gate section with variable hysteresis ensures precise operation, while the Hold control further refines the behavior of the gate or downward expander.

Full console functionality
As you would expect from SSL, the Super 9000 is extremely flexible in its deployment. A balanced insertion point allows the inclusion of external processors in the signal chain, and this point can be moved from the input stage to the output stage if desired. There are also an external sidechain input, adjustable order of signal processes and a link function to use two Super 9000 compressors in stereo. Everything is conveniently housed in a compact 1HE unit - typical SSL: uncompromising quality and maximum functionality.
