The Supro Amulet is a vintage-voiced 1x10 combo loaded with all-tube reverb and an analog tremolo. In itself, this obviously is nothing new, but nicely familiar and traditional. Great! Because amps like these sound so woderfully timeless and ultimately perhaps the most inspiring, we'd say!
Despite little technical innovation by Supro on this Amulet, they did go for a mix of nice and very practical old-school features. And Supro's whole idea with this amp is clear; an admittedly traditional, but versatile tube amp that will fall perfectly into the mix in your live gig (as a pedal platform), but will really impress in the studio. This is one of those amps that you can give a huge overdrive at low volume; by utilizing the pre-amp gain in its full range and proportionally controlling the output power attenuator, you go from clean to crunchy to hi gain to fuzzy. Truly awesome.
This compact powerhouse offers an output power of 15 watts max and is adjustable down to 5 watts or 1 watt. The amp is completely analog and the amplification takes place by a very traditional tube circuit; a single-ended, pure class-A output stage with one 6L6 power tube and a pre-amp circuit with no less than three 12ax7 gain stages (aha, so that's where the high gain comes from!) and a 12at7 for the analog spring reverb circuit (very nice!!). As absolute icing on the cake, the Amulet is equipped with an analog and dynamic tremolo. And dynamics is the key word for this amp! Due to its technical design it is extremely responsive, sensitive to input (type of guitar and elements) and the more it is kicked on its tail, the more the compression increases. Vintage tone all over the place! An absolute feast!
The loudspeaker is a Celestion Creamback 10" speaker. It sounds creamy, but due to its size also a bit bright. This can be on the sharp side with single coil based guitars and combined with such guitars, perhaps the 12" Royale would be a better choice. However, a combination with a traditional LP-style guitar is a magical match-made-in-heaven with this 10" Amulet.
The reverb and tremolo can be controlled remotely with a footswitch. This is optionally available separately and thus not included with the amp.
And finally, it must also be said; again, how beautiful this looks!
