The Yamaha Montage  was the flagship in the field of Yamaha Synthesizers

At the 2016 NAMM, Yamaha presented this powerful new Synthesizer Workstation that takes the immensely popular predecessor 'Motiv XF' and makes everything even cooler with lots of -no, heul, heeeeeul veul- new functionality and features. Yamaha is taking a huge step forward in virtual instruments with this.

For the sounds here, Yamaha uses no less than two engines: the AWM2 and the FM-X module.

The AWN2 engine is compatible with the existing Motiv libraries, but is exponentially more powerful than that previous flagship model with almost ten times as much wave memory, integrated flash, twice as many effects and twice the polyphony of the Motiv XF. WOW!

The FM-X module is a highly advanced and pure Frequency Modulation Synthesizer Engine. It creates classics '80s sounds, but also fresh and innovative EDM sounds with fantastic dynamics, power and intelligibility. A joy to experiment with and to work with.

For controls, Yamaha opts for a brand new interface with a bright touchscreen, endlessly rotating sound parameters and something totally new: Yamaha calls it the 'Super Knob' or super button in English.

The Super Knob is a macro control that allows you to control multiple parameters simultaneously. For example, you can move the PAN of a sound from left to right with L44 as a starting point and R100 as an end point while the high-pass will be less intense with a free choice of beginning and end point. This way you could add even more effects and control them all at the same time. Never before have you been so free to combine effects. You can control the knob with an FC7 foot controller, so you can also control it when playing with two hands. Handy!

The new Montage workstations are bundled with Cubase AI, Steiner's professional music production software.
