Bass Drum O's HSC

The Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter makes making your own porthole a lot easier. This handy tool works similar to a circle glass cutter: you place the center point in the resonance sheet of your bass drum and then rotate the cutting arm around for a neat, round cutout.

The Hole Cutter is adjustable and capable of making portholes from 2 inches (5.08 cm) to as much as 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter. A porthole makes placing a microphone and mute material much easier.

What size hole should I cut?
For bass drums up to 16 inches in diameter, we recommend a 4-inch hole. Most bass drum microphones will just barely fit into this. From 18 inches on, 4, 5 or 6 inches is big enough and so on. It is important to finish the hole with a Bass Drum O's port. This will prevent the hole from cracking, which can happen when microphones and cables regularly hit it.

Bass Drum O's Hole Cutter Tool tips:

• save the cut-out piece of drumhead. You can use this as damping on your snare drum or reuse it as a kick patch on the batter of your bass drum
• cover the hole with a bass drum port to prevent cracks caused by contact with microphones or cables
• cut the hole on a hard surface, such as a wooden plank, to avoid damaging your floor covering
