Eve Audio SC208

A Monitor with Balls!!! The SC208 is a midfield studio monitor of stature. With an impressive 36Hz low-end and 21kHz top-end the SC208 serves almost all essential frequencies for mixing and mastering. Ideal for situations where you have no room for, or prefer to work without a sub, but still want to hear those very lowest frequencies.

EVE Audio also refers to the SC208 as a midfield monitor. This means that it is also suitable for placement further from the listening position to create a large sweetspot. Generally compliment this with a nearfield set that compliments the monitor, or the situation, such as the SC204, SC205 or SC207. This way you can create an overall picture for mixing, mastering and producing for yourself or the band/artist sitting behind you.

The SC208 allows you to extend the bass frequency response to 36 Hz. Our custom-made 8" SilverCone woofer, powered by an advanced copper-capped magnet system with a 1.5" voice coil, guarantees that you won't run out of bass response when it comes to critical listening and comparing your mixes. The result is very tight and dynamic bass, along with the usual greater linear excursion that every other EVE Audio model offers.

Our PWM amplifier with protection limitation can deliver a momentary output power of 150 W for a maximum output level of 112 dB (SPL @ 1m). So you can rest assured that there is enough power to critically and accurately judge your mixes.

The SC208 also uses our patented AMT (Air Motion Transformer) RS2. The RS2 stands for Ribbon System 2, which means it has a larger front plate and a larger magnet that drives motion with the greatest efficiency.

As with any other EVE Audio speaker, you get both balanced XLR inputs and unbalanced RCA inputs for added convenience.

DSP and SMART button

All EVE Audio monitors feature high-resolution DSP electronics. A high-quality analog-to-digital converter from BurrBrown (24bit/192kHz) converts the analog input signal delivered via RCA or XLR. The DSP provides latency-free filtering and protects the tweeter and woofers from overload over the entire frequency range. When the monitor is turned on, the volume increases slowly leaving enough time to lower the source volume if the input signal is too loud.

Adjustments to the acoustic environment can be made via the front rotary/push button, the SMART button with rotating LED ring. This knob can be used to level the system volume and adjust filters for room variables (filters for bass, midrange and treble). All settings are displayed on the LED ring, giving you instant information about the selected values. The brightness of the LED ring can be adjusted for dark studios or video applications.

High-quality Class D amplifiers complete the system and provide enough power to meet the demands of modern music production. Selected volume and/or filter settings can be independently locked with DIP switches on the back of the amplifier to prevent unauthorized or unintended adjustments.

The Air Motion Transformer

The AMT tweeter is EVE's own patented technology that follows the rule of no off-the-shelf components to achieve superior results. The accuracy and detail of the high frequency range of EVE monitors, combined with the overall tightness of the bass and midrange, make the SC204 an excellent speaker that can easily be used on the road (thanks to its smaller size) or as a second pair of speakers alongside your main setup.

Understanding the Air Motion Transformer

The Air Motion Transformer (AMT) is a unique driver technology that sets it apart from other audio drivers. It uses a lightweight, hand-folded diaphragm that is thinly coated with aluminum. The flow of the music signal passes through these conductive wires.

The diaphragm is placed in a powerful magnetic field that causes the folds to move as a result of the Lorentz force. Due to the opposite direction of the current, the walls of each individual fold work against each other. The air between the folds is forced in and out at a ratio of 1:4, compared to the 1:1 ratio of an ordinary dome tweeter.

This results in higher resolution and dynamics in the tweeter section, along with very low distortion levels, enabling superior sound quality with enhanced detail and clarity.

The Smart Knob

The smart knob on the front panel of the monitor controls both the volume and the internal DSP. Turn the knob and it turns up the monitor's volume. Press the knob and you get control over high and mid frequencies, a desk setting that takes away level around 200Hz and round 90Hz boost to compensate for desk reflections and a low-shelf to boost or take away. You can also turn off the LEDs here if you don't like it.
