The Positive Grid Reactor 50 is no ordinary modeling combo where you scroll through a fixed list of presets until you find something useful. This guitar amp is built around Amp Intelligence: a tone engine that converts your idea into a complete playable sound. You can describe a sound, use an audio example or take a photo as inspiration. Then Reactor builds a complete combination of amp, effects and signal path that you can play immediately.

That makes this amp interesting for guitarists who want to go from idea to sound quickly. You don't have to first figure out what amp model, what gain structure, what EQ setting and what effects are needed. You describe where you want to go, let Reactor make a suggestion and then further adjust the sound with the controls on the amp or in the app.

The Reactor 50 is the most compact version in the series. You get the same Amp Intelligence platform, the same way of making tones and the same practical connections, but in a handier 50W size. Ideal for home, studio, rehearsal and smaller stages, without sacrificing playing feel or controls.

Amp Intelligence: not a single preset, but a complete sound proposal
Amp Intelligence is designed to approach sound from the behavior of amplifiers. The manufacturer says that more than 200 amplifier designs have been analyzed at the circuit level, including gain stages, transformers, bias points and harmonic response. As a result, Reactor works not just with a fixed set of tone names, but with a system that combines amplifier response and effect choices into a playable setup. In practice, you especially notice this in the workflow. You don't start with an empty screen or an endless preset list, but with a goal: a tight modern rhythm sound, a warm blues sound, an ambient clean sound with long reverb, or a description of your own. Reactor translates that into an amp configuration, an effects chain and a logical sequence in the signal path.

Tone Capture with text, audio and image
Tone Capture is one of the key features of the Reactor series. With Text to Tone, you describe in plain language what sound you are looking for. Think of a style, feel, reference or playing context. Reactor turns that into a complete sound with amp, gain, EQ and effects. With Audio to Tone you can use a recording or fragment as a starting point. Reactor analyzes the guitar-like sound, gain, timbre and effects used and builds a playable version of it. This is useful when you hear a sound from a song and want to quickly play in that direction without spending hours searching. With Image to Tone, you use a picture as inspiration. That can be an amp, pedalboard, stage, poster or abstract image. Reactor translates the image into a tone idea. This may sound unusual, but it makes the amp creatively useful: you start from atmosphere or inspiration and then adjust the sound further.

Quick adjustments without starting over
A created sound is not an end point. You can then steer Reactor further with additional commands such as more gain, less low, brighter, tighter or wider. The amplifier adjusts the existing sound, so you don't have to start over every time. That makes the process fluid: choose direction quickly first, then refine. In addition to that smart workflow, the amp also remains simply manually controllable. On the top panel, you'll find familiar controls for Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble and Master. This allows you to intervene directly live or during a rehearsal without needing the app.

Push/Smooth and Heat: instant control over feel and presence

On the top panel are two sound functions typical of Reactor. Push/Smooth changes the way the sound comes out. Push gives more bite and presence, such as for leads or parts that need to cut through a mix. Smooth makes the attack softer and puts the sound more backwards.Heat acts as a 5-position control for feel and harmonics. Turn Heat up, and the attack feels faster and tighter, and harmonics come out stronger. Turn Heat lower, and the response becomes smoother and more elastic. Importantly, this happens without a sharp change in volume, allowing you to adjust the feel without losing your entire balance.

Playable at low volume and ready for rehearsal or stage
The Positive Grid Reactor 50 has selectable power: 50W / 25W / 1W. This allows you to practice at home at 1W, rehearse at 25W or use full power when you need more volume. The idea is that the amp retains its character at different volumes, so you don't just get a full sound at stage volume. The 12-inch custom speaker sits in a wooden cabinet and is tuned for direct playing feel and response. So it's not a monitor-like cabinet that comes alive only through the app, but a real guitar combo with physical controls, speaker cabinet, presets and connections for practical situations.

Reactor app, ToneCloud and build your own amps
The Reactor app for iOS and Android is the place to create, store and refine sounds. You get access to 24 factory amp models and 27 effects, with categories such as Noise Gate, Compressor, Distortion, Wah, Modulation, EQ, Delay and Reverb. Per preset, you can use up to 8 effects, 1 FX loop and 1 amp model in the signal chain. In the app you can change the order of your signal path, edit parameters deeper and create your own amp characters. So you are not limited to the standard models. You can create your own amp voice, save it and combine it with your favorite effects chain. ToneCloud lets you download, save and share sounds and custom amps with other players. On the amp itself, you have 8 programmable presets for quick recall from the front panel. The app lets you manage many more sounds by song, session, style or project.

Connections for studio, stage and practice
The Positive Grid Reactor 50 is also practically set up for recording and live use. Via USB-C, you use the amp as an audio interface for recording on macOS and Windows, with 1 input, 2 outputs and 24-bit / 48 kHz. So you don't need an external interface to record guitar parts directly into your DAW. For live use, there is a 6.35 mm line out with cab simulation. This allows you to send a usable signal to a mixer or audio interface. The FX loop makes it possible to place external pedals in the signal chain. There are also connections for headphones, Power Amp In, MIDI In and Reactor Control.

Bluetooth 5.0 is present for app control and audio streaming. Wi-Fi is used for OTA updates. The optional REACTOR Control foot controller is available separately and can be used wired or wirelessly for preset switching and effect control. There is also an expression pedal input on that controller.

Who is the Positive Grid Reactor 50 for?
The Positive Grid Reactor 50 is intended for guitarists looking for a more compact 1x12 combo for home, studio, rehearsal and smaller stages. It's a good choice if you need a lot of different sounds, but don't want to manually build a complete chain every time. It is also interesting for online players, home recording, session work and cover bands, because you go quickly from reference to usable sound. If you are used to a Positive Grid Spark, you can see Reactor as a bigger step toward rehearsal, studio and stage. Spark remains primarily a practice amp; Reactor is a self-contained guitar combo with more power, physical controls, more connections and a performance-oriented setup.
