The Sessiondesk SBX Sub is a modular low-frequency absorption panel designed for studios, control rooms, mixing rooms, vocal booths, podcast studios, and other spaces where low-frequency control is important. While the SBX Core is primarily designed for broadband absorption, the SBX Sub tackles deeper low-frequency energy. Think of bass buildup, standing waves, and less tight low-end reproduction in smaller or challenging spaces.
The SBX Sub is part of Sessiondesk’s SessionbloX system. This allows you to use this panel as a standalone unit, combine it with SBX Core panels, or incorporate it into a larger modular acoustic setup. Thanks to the tool-free SBX X-connector system, you can quickly connect, move, and rearrange panels. This allows you to build an acoustic solution that fits your space, workflow, and application.
Focused on Low Frequencies
Low frequencies are often the most difficult to control. Especially in smaller studios, bass frequencies can build up in corners, along walls, or around the listening position. The result is a low-end response that doesn’t feel reliable: some notes sound too loud, while others seem to disappear. The Sessiondesk SBX Sub is designed to address precisely that problem. This panel helps reduce bass build-up and standing waves. As a result, you can better hear what’s happening in the low end of your mix. This is important for mixing, mastering, production, and recording, as well as for voice-over, podcasting, and broadcasting when the space needs to sound less cluttered or boomy.

Limp mass baffle with porous loading
The SBX Sub operates on the principle of a limp mass baffle with porous loading. Simply put, the panel uses a freely moving diaphragm construction combined with absorptive material. This combination is designed to selectively absorb low frequencies, while the modular design remains practical for studio use. According to Sessiondesk, when placed directly against a wall, the SBX Sub is tuned to around 75 Hz. By increasing the distance between the wall and the panel, the response shifts deeper into the low-frequency range. This makes the SBX Sub ideal for rooms with specific low-frequency issues and where you want to tailor the placement to the room’s acoustics.
Modular component of the SessionbloX
Together with the SBX Core, the SBX Sub forms the foundation of the SessionbloX system. The SBX Core handles broadband frequencies, while the SBX Sub focuses on deeper bass. By combining both panels, you can build a more comprehensive acoustic treatment for control rooms, production studios, recording corners, and vocal booths. For example, use the SBX Sub on the back wall of a mixing room, in areas where low frequencies build up, or as part of a larger wall setup. In combination with SBX add-ons, you can use the panels for wall mounting, ceiling mounting, freestanding placement, or mobile applications with stands and wheels.
Quick setup without tools
The SBX Sub is designed for users who want flexible acoustic solutions. Thanks to the SBX X-connectors, you can connect panels together without tools. This is convenient if your studio frequently changes its layout or if you want to use panels for different sessions. You can use the SBX Sub freestanding in horizontal and vertical configurations. With multiple panels, you can build larger structures, such as an acoustic wall, recording corner, vocal booth, or movable acoustic partition. This way, you don’t have to install them permanently right away and can adjust the acoustics whenever the space or session requires it.
Designed for modern studios
The Sessiondesk SBX Sub features a birch plywood frame with a Sessiondesk 90s black finish. The PET surface is made from at least 60 percent recycled plastic bottles. The interior consists of 100 percent natural wood fiber from the Black Forest and is free of mineral wool and synthetic foams. The PET surface is dust-repellent and easy to clean. It is also moisture-resistant, bacteria-resistant, and free of VOCs, formaldehyde, phenols, and phthalates. The wood fiber insulation is recyclable, Natureplus-certified, and made from wood fiber sourced from the Black Forest.
Finish and Color Details
The SBX Sub has the same sleek studio look as the SBX Core. The black birch plywood frame and PET front provide a clean look that fits well in professional studios, project studios, podcast studios, and creative workspaces. The box includes extra colored lasso straps in Fibrous Green and Agate Grey. You can use these to customize the panel’s appearance.
Helpful for planning your acoustics
’s Sessiondesk offers a Room Acoustics Calculator & 3D Visualizer for the SessionbloX series. This tool lets you estimate, based on your room’s dimensions, how many SBX Core and SBX Sub panels you’ll need and where to place them for best results. The tool analyzes the room’s dimensions and helps identify zones where standing waves and bass buildup occur.
Who is the Sessiondesk SBX Sub suitable for?
The Sessiondesk SBX Sub issuitable for producers, mix engineers, mastering engineers, studio owners, musicians, podcasters, and content creators who want more control over low frequencies. Especially in smaller spaces, rectangular rooms, home studios, and project studios, the low end can quickly become unreliable. The SBX Sub helps you better control that low-frequency response. Combine the SBX Sub with SBX Core panels for balanced acoustic treatment. Use the SBX Core for broadband absorption and the SBX Sub for deeper bass. This allows you to build a modular acoustic system that can grow with your studio.
