The Sennheiser MMD 42 is adynamic,omnidirectional microphone capsule. This capsule has the same sound characteristics as the famous MD 42 reporter microphone. This separate microphone head can be easily mounted on a wireless handheld transmitter.
The omni characteristic ensures good speech intelligibility without having to aim the microphone perfectly. Ideal as interview / reportage / ENG microphone.
By default, a handheld transmitter is not always supplied with a microphone head. This system allows you to choose and order the right microphone head yourself. The Sennheiser MMD capsules are compatible with, among others, the SKM 100/300/500 G3/G4, SKM 2000/6000/9000, SKM D1/AVX and SL handheld DW wireless transmitters (sold separately). The capsule is easy to install.
What is also handy about an interchangeable capsule is that you can change the microphone head if there is a specific application where you need another head. So on a handheld transmitter you can use different microphone heads. On a small stage a dynamic microphone can sometimes work better than for example a sensitive condenser microphone. Or perhaps you prefer to use a microphone with a kidney characteristic (eg at a presentation). And for another application, you may prefer to switch to a super-kidney (e.g. if you suffer from crosstalk on a stage with a lot of monitor noise). The interchangeable capsule system thus allows you to choose between capsules with different levels of sensitivity and polarity patterns.
