Arturia AstroLab 37

The Arturia AstroLab 37 brings together the extensive soundscape of the AstroLab series in a compact instrument featuring 37 velocity-sensitive slim keys and aftertouch. It features over 1,800 presets, drawn from 44 Arturia instruments and built using eleven different sound engines. From pianos, electric pianos, and organs to analog synthesizers, wavetable sounds, FM synthesis, and acoustic instruments: with the AstroLab 37, you have a complete collection of sounds at your fingertips.

The AstroLab 37 operates completely independently. So you don’t need a computer while playing. Thanks to its compact size and weight of just 1.95 kg, you can easily take it with you to a rehearsal, performance, studio session, or DJ set. Using Analog Lab Pro and the AstroLab Connect app, you can manage the sound library, customize presets, and create playlists.

44 instruments and over 1,800 presets
The AstroLab 37 includes presets from 44 Arturia software instruments. The collection ranges from analog synthesizer emulations to digital synthesis, pianos, electric pianos, organs, strings, brass, and hybrid acoustic sounds. Included are Mini V, Jup-8 V, CS-80 V, DX7 V, Pigments, Piano V, Stage-73 V, Wurli V, B-3 V, and various instruments from the Augmented series. The eleven built-in sound engines offer virtual analog, samples, wavetable, FM, granular, physical modeling, vector synthesis, harmonic, phase distortion, vocoder, and Karplus synthesis. As a result, the AstroLab 37 covers a wide range of musical styles and applications. You can use classic keyboard sounds for a band performance, but just as easily employ leads, basses, pads, and dynamic textures for electronic music or soundtracks.

Using compatible Arturia software, the sound library can be expanded to over 10,000 sounds. Custom presets from compatible instruments in the V Collection and Pigments can also be transferred to the AstroLab.

Compact keyboard with aftertouch
The keyboard consists of 37 velocity-sensitive slim keys with aftertouch. These keys keep the unit compact, while giving you three octaves right at your fingertips. Use the octave buttons to expand the playing range, and use the pitch and modulation wheels to add extra expression while playing. Aftertouch allows you to further influence a sound by applying additional pressure to the keys after striking them. Depending on the preset, you can use this to control vibrato, filter movement, or another assigned effect, for example. This makes the AstroLab 37 ideal for synth solos, leads, bass parts, and compact live setups, among other things.

Quickly browse sounds and playlists
The color screen and navigation control provide access to instruments, presets, and playlists. Ten preset buttons let you jump directly to different sound categories. This way, you don’t have to search through long menus during a performance. Playlists let you organize presets in the order you want for a performance. This lets you quickly move to the next song or sound. With AstroLab Connect, you can manage playlists and sounds from a compatible mobile device, while Analog Lab Pro offers more extensive options for customizing, organizing, and synchronizing presets.

Direct control over sound and effects
Four macro controls provide access to Brightness, Timbre, Time, and Movement. Each macro can control multiple parameters simultaneously. For example, with a single control, you can open the filter, brighten the sound, or add more movement to a preset. The LED indicators around the controls show how the parameters are set. In addition, there are four controls for effects, including separate controls for delay and reverb. The AstroLab 37 features twelve insert effects, including filters, EQ, compressor, distortion, chorus, flanger, phaser, wah, amp simulation, and rotary speaker. Effect settings and macro assignments can be further customized with Analog Lab Pro.

’sArpeggiator, Chord, and Scale Functions The built-in arpeggiator converts played notes into rhythmic patterns. Chord Mode lets you play entire chords from a single key, and Scale Mode helps you stay within a selected scale. By combining these functions, you can create complete chord and arpeggio parts with just a few keystrokes. The AstroLab 37 also supports multi-presets, which allow you to combine two sounds or distribute them across the keyboard. Creating and extensively editing multi-presets is done via Analog Lab Pro; this editing is not available directly on the AstroLab 37. An external USB-MIDI keyboard can be used to play the two parts separately or across a wider range of keys.

Built-in Vocoder and Audio Input
The balanced mono microphone/line input allows you to use the vocoder with an external microphone. The vocoder can be layered over various sounds, enabling you to combine vocals with synthesizer sounds. The input is also suitable for routing another instrument through the AstroLab 37’s built-in effects. Via Bluetooth audio, you can play music from a smartphone, tablet, or other compatible device. This is useful when you want to practice a song or use a backing track.

From Studio to Stage
Analog Lab Pro is included and serves as the software complement to the AstroLab 37. In Analog Lab Pro, you can search for presets, customize them, and sync them to the keyboard. You can also set up effects, assign macros, and create playlists. Within a DAW, the AstroLab 37 can be used as a controller for Analog Lab Pro. AstroLab Connect is available for iOS and Android. With this app, you can wirelessly browse presets, manage playlists, and add new soundbanks. The connection is made via Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is available for audio playback from a mobile device.

Connections for Stage and Studio The AstroLab 37 features balanced stereo outputs for connecting to a mixer, audio interface, or powered speakers. A separate headphone output enables direct monitoring. MIDI In and Out ports enable communication with synthesizers, drum machines, and other MIDI devices. You can connect the instrument to a computer via USB-C for use with Analog Lab Pro, a DAW, and firmware updates. The USB-A host port is compatible with a USB flash drive or an external USB-MIDI keyboard. There is also a connection for a sustain pedal.
