The E20 series already knew a huge diversity; from dread's -with or without the nuance of a slope shoulder- to OM's and OO. One would almost say that no further expansion was possible to the E20-concept of a spruce top with a rosewood back and side.
But guess what; behold the latest addition to the E20 collection, with its pretigious Madagascar rosewood side and back, the MR range. Available as an OM and as a Dread.

And again, Eastman has a great addition to the collection; what a huge difference in sound compared to a regular E20...with Indian rosewood. And that is really the only difference; Madagascar vs Indian rosewood. What is this sorcery you may think!? Well, there is no magic involved here, but the sounddifference is caused by the higher level of density and hardness of Madagascar in comparison to Indian rosewood.
Add to the mythology that Madagascar rosewood is simple much scarcer and therefore a lot more expensive than Indian rosewood and you have something special. For that reason you will find Madagascar quite rarely on guitars (especially in a price range below 3K!).

Like the regular E20OM-TC, this E20OM-TC-MR features a thermo cured adirondack spruce top. The relatively soft adirondack spruce combined with the relatively hard Madagascar rosewood produces an tone that is just off the hook. Imagine the mellow, woody and dry tone of the adirondack combines with tremendous volume, articulation and an endless amount of rich overtones from the hard side and back. With it, this OM is a very powerful flattop not only as a fingerstyle steelstring. Also as a flatpickers guitar, this is a true cannon, without sacrificing that typical character of its small-body. Truly a great addition to the Eastman range.
Last but not least, Madagascar has a very different appearance due to the coarser grain structure of the wood and its darker color (grayer / blacker instead of brown / reddish). Very nice!
