Eastman E20OM-TC-MR

The E20 series already offered an enormous range of diversity—from dreadnoughts (with or without a sloped shoulder) to OM and OO models. You’d almost think there was no room for further expansion of the concept of a spruce top with rosewood sides and back. 
But nothing could be further from the truth, because the latest addition to the E20 collection is a model with Madagascar rosewood sides and back, available in OM and D sizes.

And once again, this is a well-deserved addition to the collection, because what an enormous difference in tone compared to a standard E20… with Indian rosewood. And that’s actually the only difference: Madagascar vs. Indian rosewood. So there must be some magic at work here!? Well, of course there’s no magic involved, but Madagascar rosewood is much scarcer and therefore a lot more expensive than Indian rosewood. For that reason, you’ll find Madagascar rosewood quite rarely in guitars (especially in the 3,000 EU price range!). The difference in tone stems from the fact that its density and hardness are significantly higher.

Just like the standard E20OM-TC, this E20OM-TC-MR also features a thermo-cured Adirondack spruce top. The relatively soft Adirondack spruce, combined with the relatively hard Madagascar rosewood, produces an incredible tone. On the one hand, there’s the mellow, woody, and dry tone of the Adirondack, but with enormous volume, articulation, and a wealth of rich overtones from the hard sides and back. As a result, this OM is very powerful, not just as a fingerstyle flat-top. It’s also a powerhouse as a flatpicking guitar, without sacrificing the typical character of a small-body instrument. It truly adds value to the Eastman lineup. 
Finally, the Madagascar top has a distinctly different grain pattern due to the wood’s coarser grain structure and is darker in color (more grayish/blackish in hue rather than brown/reddish). Very beautiful!
