The Sennheiser E 906 is an instrument microphone specifically for guitar amps. You position the flat front near / against the speaker. This can be done using e.g. a stand, but you can also let it "dangle" from an XLR cable. Besides guitar amps, the microphone is also great for amplifying drums, percussion and brass instruments.
