Rack mixers are becoming increasingly popular among musicians and AV personnel because of their compact size and powerful mixing capabilities. However, to find a rack mixer where you don't sacrifice audio quality and reliability is no easy matter. The TF-Rack delivers the exact same audio quality and reliability we've come to expect from Yamaha's TF series. With powerful and clean pre-amps and powerful AD/DA conversion, you can be sure that your source will be reproduced and processed correctly at all times.

Control the TF-Rack directly from the control panel or via PC or tablet. Ideal for mixing in the venue because you can place the rack in an inconspicuous spot and walk into the room yourself with nothing more than a tablet to adjust the mix. It is even possible to log your artists/ fellow musicians into the Monitor Mix app with their own phone or tablet, giving them control over their own mix.

Scene memory that stores mix settings for immediate recall

The scene memory has banks A and B, each of which can hold up to 100 scenes. That's a total of 200 scenes that you can set and instantly recall when needed. Some scenes are pre-programmed to give users a head start: scenes with the 1-button COMP and 1-button EQ controls enabled for the easiest operation, and scenes with the 1-button functions disabled for experienced technicians who want to follow a set procedure. The banks are ideal for organizing different types of scenes: one for scenes categorized by music type and the other by event type, for example.

1-button COMP™ & 1-button EQ™: One button to set the ideal sound

An experienced sound engineer can do a lot with a compressor: bring a guitar to life, give bass extra punch, tighten a snare and make vocals sound clear in the mix. The COMP with one knob can do all this quickly and easily, without having to juggle multiple parameters to achieve the desired effect. The one-button COMP was originally introduced in analog Yamaha mixers and quickly became a popular and valued feature. It has now been further refined in a digital version that adds new ease of setup and efficiency to TF consoles.

The same concept has been applied in a new 1-button EQ function that provides significantly improved speed and smooth operation. 1-button EQ has been carefully refined by Yamaha R&D staff in collaboration with leading sound engineers to ensure that you can achieve outstanding results with minimal effort and in the shortest possible time. A Vocal Mode makes it easier than ever to achieve a clear, well-defined vocal sound, while an Intensity Mode offers 1-button "intensity" control over EQ curves you select from presets or create yourself.

QuickPro Presets™ provide instant access to professional sound settings

The Yamaha R&D team has developed a selection of optimized QuickPro Presets™ for a wide variety of microphones and output devices by working with respected engineers and major microphone manufacturers such as Audio-Technica, FitEar, Sennheiser, Shure, Ultimate Ears and Westone Laboratories. With these practical presets, even the novice technician can get very close to the ideal sound, while experienced technicians will appreciate the significant time savings. For the input channels, we have created more than 200 presets, from vocals to drum sets. All presets are precisely tuned using a wide range of real microphones and instruments. For the output channels, we have developed presets for different speaker systems and in-ear monitors with different variations for different environments and room sizes. These can all be used when time is short, but they are also great starting points for manual fine-tuning. Setups created from the presets or from scratch can also be saved as additional presets. The 1-button EQ and 1-button COMP can be used with QuickPro Presets™ for a super-streamlined way to tweak your sound. In addition to the onboard presets, new QuickPro Presets™ will be added to the Yamaha Pro Audio website, so be sure to stay tuned for updates.

8 powerful processing/effect units and more....

In addition to the channel processors, the TF consoles feature eight powerful processing/effect units. All units are equipped with the same type of SPX processors that have become a standard in recording and live applications, and offer 19 programs ranging from reverb and delay, through modulation effects such as flanger and chorus, to multiband compression.

With two units of the global FX, the EDIT key on the panel opens the effect parameter display where detailed parameters can be adjusted directly. The remaining six Ins FX are available in the AUX 9/10~19/20 master channels for additional signal control, such as managing levels for in-ear monitoring, or controlling output delay for remote speakers using a delay. If more than two Global FX units are needed, these Ins effects can be used as additional SEND/ RETURN effects by assigning them to the master stereo bus.

The AUX 1~8 buses and master output channels have the same 4-band parametric EQ as the input channels, plus 31-band Flex12 GEQ. Both types of EQ are invaluable for optimizing speaker response and eliminating feedback. These GEQ can also be assigned to the physical faders for more detailed fine-tuning.

Applications that work seamlessly with the console

Separate software applications that enable wireless mixing, personal monitor mixing or offline setup of digital live mixing consoles have become quite common.

The TF Series takes this a step further with three dedicated apps: TF Editor, TF StageMix and MonitorMix. These apps have user interfaces that seamlessly extend the console on any device.

TF Editor facilitates offline editing plus showtime control

The TF Editor application for Windows and Mac computers provides a complete interface for offline editing and setup of TF consoles, with scene and preset management capabilities plus convenient keyboard entry of channel names.

In addition to the ability to set up the console offline at any convenient location and time, the TF Editor can be used online at the same time as the TF StageMix and MonitorMix applications. A Windows 8 PC with a multi-touch screen can use the same gestures as on the console itself. And if you use Wi-Fi, a PC can act as a convenient remote mixing device. Up to three devices with TF Editor or StageMix can be connected at the same time.

TF StageMix™ for wireless mixing

TF StageMix is an iPad application that enables wireless control of TF Series consoles, allowing you to mix remotely from audience seats, in front of floor monitors or another listening position. It can also be used with the console as an extension of the console's own interface. The TF StageMix interface is designed for similar operation and flow as the console display, making it easier than ever to fine-tune the mix from any location.

Personal monitoring with MonitorMix

The MonitorMix application for the TF Series allows individual wireless AUX mixing from up to 10 iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices simultaneously. Each performer has convenient control over the AUX buses assigned to them, without complicated settings or parameters. They can also create personal group settings for even easier adjustments: all levels on just one fader, for example. Since up to three devices with TF Editor or StageMix and up to 10 devices with MonitorMix can be connected at the same time, even large bands can get the personal control they need, reducing the burden on the sound engineer.

Touch controls for intimate control

Refined for the smoothest possible touch panel operation, the TF user interface provides a smooth workflow that can be an advantage in any mixing situation. Display content is specifically designed for easy, direct accessibility, with a layout that promotes the most natural, efficient mixing. Touch panel operation is as easy as shaping the sound with your fingertips.

Touch & Turn button offers extra precision

If you need extra precision for fine EQ or any other adjustment, the physical Touch & Turn button is always available next to the touch panel. There are also four user-defined buttons below the panel that can be assigned to compressor threshold, EQ gain or other parameters you want to be able to use quickly and directly while mixing. The knobs always affect the currently selected channel
