Since its debut in 1974, the Yamaha SG has been the choice of some of the most influential guitarists. From its rich tone and long sustain to its excellent playability and stunning design, all of its signature features have stood the test of time and are still relevant today. However, since the SG's birth, there have been countless changes in the music world and many new musical styles have emerged. Along with these changes, we have witnessed vast improvements and changes in amps and effects - suffice it to say that the demands of players today are completely different than when the original SG was introduced.

While the original SG models have made their name in electric guitar history, to meet these demands and make today's SG as iconic and relevant as the original models, the SG1820 series was developed.Using direct feedback from Yamaha's London and Tokyo artist relations offices and Yamaha Artist Services Hollywood (YASH), the guitars are equipped with the custom-shop parts that artists want and need and finished with the new simpler cosmetics that players have requested. With Japanese handmade set-neck construction, African mahogany body and neck and maple top, the new SGs have totally updated, uncompromising specifications to make them perfect for today's musicians. At last, the stadium-ready SGs that Yamaha has produced for artists are now available to the public.

This is the standard model of the SG1820 series and the guitar on which all new SGs are based. Specifications and appearance are based on feedback from the artists involved in development in Tokyo, London and YASH in Hollywood. SG1820s are all handmade at YMC in Japan and feature custom-shop parts that professionals rely on for a tone, feel and reliability that is tour-ready.

I.R.A. Treatment: 
Any guitar benefits from being "played in," a process in which the instrument matures and opens up as the stresses between the wood and finish, neck and fingerboard, and body and hardware are released, resulting in better sound and playability. Yamaha’s exclusive Initial Response Acceleration (IRA) technology releases those stresses by applying specific vibrations to the completed instruments as part of the crafting process and gives a "played in" guitar from day one.
