A gem from the Dingwall Custom Shop; the Dingwal RVDL Signature D-Roc Custom 5-string with the eye-catching Royal Blue Metallic finish! Developed in collaboration with Rob van der Loo, bassist of symphonic metal band Epica.

This bass is a true "tone machine on steroids" and is equipped with a built-in distortion circuit. As a result, pedals, effects models or endless tweaking to your bass amp are not necessarily necessary. With a simple turn of a knob, it effortlessly cuts through any band mix. Other notable features include the streamlined D-Roc body and a specially sculpted top that creates the illusion of anodized aluminum.

Body & neck

The body follows the D-Roc design, with a spacious cutaway that provides additional access to the higher frets. It is constructed of Fijian mahogany, while the top is carved to resemble brushed or machined aluminum. Under stage light, this creates a subtle play of colors. The sculpted contours, along with the wenge neck and fingerboard, give the instrument a modern and aggressive look - as if the bass had been milled from solid metal, but with the warm resonance of handcrafted wood.

"Sheldon and I wanted to make a follow-up to the Limited Edition Hellboy," says Rob. "But the concept of the milled top took it much further than I ever imagined. A lot of people still think a special lacquer was used for that effect, but it's all carved out of the wood. On stage it really looks great."

Pickups & electronics

Controls follow the same layout as the D-Roc Standard: volume, tone and a four-way rotary pickup selector switch. In addition, this version has an extra push/pull function on the volume knob and a separate drive control for the distortion.

When the volume knob is up, the bass remains completely passive and the Darkglass Electronics circuitry is disabled. When you press the knob, the full power of the drive circuit comes to life. You control the amount of distortion with the drive control, with numerous tone options depending on your bass sound and how you combine the three FDV pickups.

Hardware

A set of Hipshot Ultralite tuning machines reduces weight and provides better balance. Stability comes from the beloved Dingwall Minimalist bridge, ideal for bassists who prefer not to constantly adjust their intonation.
