Details that are not always physically visible but which are of course reflected in the pricing; the fit of the skins and hoops versus the drums, the quality and finish of the hardware, the skins, the unique snare strainers, the simple but rock solid and smart constructions of the stands and of course the sound of the drums. The Performance is in the series of drum kits DW offers an affordable professional touring shell kit. This kit is made in the USA from American maple where the shells are made with the special HVX construction; DW's shell guru John Good spends a lot of time experimenting with different layer builds and grain directions and how this affects the sound of a shell. 

The sound of a Performance is fat and "sticky" but without losing definition and tone. A great pop / rock kit in other words. Imagine a modern fat drum recording and you'll have an idea of what this DW sounds like acoustically. In addition, a Performance is not really inferior to DW's flagship and always custom-made Collector's. The big difference is the Performance's limited configuration and color choices and a lighter lugs design. Oh, and of course the price (about half). So Performance is a very high quality kit that is very attainable with a mid-range price. Please note; this is a shellpack consisting of a 22 "x18" kick drum, 10 "x8" and 12 "x9" toms and 16 "x14" floortom, so excluding snare drum, excluding stands, excluding tom suspension.
