D'angelico Excel 59 Trans Cherry

D'angelico guitars are inspiring in every way. First of all, they are beautiful to look at, but aside from all that outward show, D'angelico more than lives up to all expectations in terms of quality and tone!
The New York luthier has a rich history and is famous for their iconic jazz bodies. However, D'angelico's current collection of solidbodies and semi-hollowbodies also caters to your every need.

With the Excel 59 D'angelico stays close to the original 1959 hollowbody, but with a modern twist. Although the full hollow body is 16" wide, with a depth of only 1.75", it thus has the -for a full hollowbody- striking depth of a thinline / ES335 hollowbody. The body has a laminated spruce top and a beautiful laminated flamed maple side and back, and the 3-piece walnut / maple set neck has an ebony fingerboard. Seymour Duncan developed a set of "Great Dane" dog-ear P-90s especially for D'angelico; a vintage 1940's inspired element set.
This package of ingredients produces a special sound; a very natural, fresh sound with rich tone and wide frequency range. The first hunch is that this makes the Excel 59 a "jazz box," but it can absolutely do more than that! Obvious applications within Americana come to mind but also certainly in the context of pop music where you want to lay down a characteristic, authentic atmosphere, the 59 is really a fantastic tastemaker.
This model in stylish Trans Cherry finish comes with tasteful gold hardware; D'angelico tailpiece and Grover Imperial tuners. Just the right touch are the details of the control knobs! Check out the custom "cupcake" volume and tone controls and the super cool chickenhead pickup switch.
