The ABZ is Dingwall's "entry-level" customshop. Of course, that's way too irreverent of an expression for this WHOLE instrument, so let's put it another way; the ABZ is a fairly frugal instrument by Dingwall customshop standards, but the specs don't lie, though!
Anyway; every handmade, Canadian Dingwall is always special and a joy to offer. This ABZ was built especially for 2025 Guitar Summit and we managed to get our hands on it.
Basically this example is a fairly modest version of an ABZ, but as always Dingwall has managed to hide a number of special options in this bass.
So an understated ABZ, what kind of meat you have in the tub? Well; a Swamp Ash body with a 5-piece, bolt-on maple neck with optional maple fingerboard. This 4-string version has a mulitscale with a gradient from 34" to 36.25", 12" fingerboard radius and the neck has a medium thin C-shape neck carve. The matte Candy Apple Red Metallic finish is understated and chic at the same time. The neck features small dot inlays and the side dots are the luminous Blue Luminlays.
Regarding the electronics, the ABZ is equipped with 3 pcs FD3 Neodymium elements, 4 position pickup switch and for each element the optional series-parallel toggle switches. The active part is controlled by the widely acclaimed Rupert Neve Desgin preamp. Known from the John Taylor signature bass and recently available in the Custom Shop.
Everything about this bass feels and sounds like the absolute high-end instrument it is.
Comes complete with the original Dingwall, heavy-duty Custom Shop soft case and accessory bag.
