Vic Firth drumstick pair with oval tip from the American Custom Maple Series. The SD9 stick has many similarities to a regular 5B and 2B stick. If you're used to playing with these hickory sticks, then the SD9 is a good alternative made of maple. However, it is relatively long just like the slightly longer Extreme models from the American Classic series.
Compared to hickory sticks, maple sticks are a bit lighter in weight (lower density) which provides a refined playability, bounce and balance. In addition, maple has a different "wear behavior"; due to its structure, the wood has the property of "chipping" or splintering and usually breaks less quickly along the entire length of the stick.
SD9 "Driver" are best compared to an X5B or 2B stick and have the following specifications:
