Vic Firth drumsticks pair with teardrop tip from the American Classic Hickory Series. X- or "Extreme" sticks are longer versions of the respective type. The length difference is approximately equal to the length of a tip and so, X5Bs are a longer version of regular Vic Firth 5B and give you just a little more reach.
Like the common 5B, this X5B has a teardrop tip and is made of hickory; a hard, strong wood and therefore very suitable material for a drumstick in the broad sense and application. Compared to the 5A stick, the 5B is slightly thicker and for this reason, it's often preferred by drummers who like to play heavy on the drums.
