This fall, Tama has released a nice pair of limited edition Starclassic Walnut / Birch snare drums. And in fact, this Starclassic series doesn't quite cover it, because the technical construction of the layers of the shell is a bit more complex. This "Cordia" edition has a 14x4.5" shell with a thickness of 6 mm of which two layers of bubinga, two layers of birch and two layers of walnut. The outside of the snare is finished with a beautiful Corida veneer finished with a tasteful matte natural finish. In addition, the snare features die-cast hoops and 10 tension lugs.
With its shallow depht, this snaredrum can be considered a piccolo. So most likely, one will create a bright, "hi-pitch" snare sound with this drum, but with its specific construction it is rich and sensitive enough for a nice griddy snare sound. Perhaps the perfect snare to spice up your collection, great for recordings or perhaps this might just be the ultimate side-snare!
