As an official add-on for the SQ1 drum kit, Sonor has several sizes of SQ1 snare drums in its catalog; 14x5.5", 14x6.5" and 13x6". And in line with the SQ1 series, the add-on snare drums are made of European birch as well and are available in the same elegant but modern finishes that Sonor offers for the SQ1 drum kits.
However, this certainly does not mean that this snare can shine exclusively if matched with the SQ1 kit. On the contrary, because the SQ1 snare is of absolute professional excellence.
Built in Germany, this snare has a cross laminated, birch shell with a thickness of 7mm (7 ply) measuring 14x6.5" and a 45' bearing edge. It features 10 Tune Safe Sonor lugs with internal locking and Sonor's 2.3mm Power Hoops, ensuring tuning stability. In addition, the SQ1 snare comes standard with the unique Dual Glide snare strainer. This strainer not only has a very well-functioning, smooth throw off, but offers the ability to strain on the butt-end as well and has the unique quick-release feature that allows the snarewires to be detached and reattached in its entirety. So with the greatest of ease you could (using a second dock) exchange string wires. Quality, solidity and innovation at its best and finest!
The 14" birch shell with 6.5" depth is the absolute all-rounder in the SQ1 lineup. You can take on any genre with this. Birch gives a rich, earthy sound with a complex tone when tuned lower and a snappy, direct tone with higher tunings.
