When Ludwig introduced this snare in 1963, it was marketed as a student/practice snare because of its dry, cracking sound. However, the sound of this snare was quickly embraced by a wide audience, and it has since become one of the most widely used snares in the studio and a true icon.Within the extensive Acro collection, this Acro Aluminum model is a reissue of the original Arcolite and thus features a ’60s Keystone badge, twin “butterfly” lugs, and a P86C strainer. The 1.6mm-thick seamless shell of this snare is made of rolled aluminum, and at this 6.5" depth, the snare sounds not only dry but also full and rich. This new version of the Acrolite comes standard with 10 lugs.
