With the Kompressor series of snare drums, Sonor has a wide collection of powerful and multi-purpose snare drums in its catalog.Nice! Because for a long time -as far as we are concerned- that was a big lack at Sonor! With a choice of several materials and a wide variety of size configurations, the Kompressor series of snare drums offers something for everyone; 100% success rate!
And as to be expected from Sonor, these are drums of stature! And by that we mean; top quality, Deutsche gründlichkeit! A characteristic which we consider to be inseparable for Sonor really. In contrary to all the metal Kompressor snaredrums, the beechwood Kompressor snare drums are 100% built in Germany.
This Kompressor snare has a 12-ply 8mm thick beechwood shell manufactured with Sonor's Cross-Laminated Tension Free (CLTF) process. It has a size of 14x6", ten Sonor TuneSafe double lugs, Steel Power Hoops and Sonor standard throw off. Sonor spends extra time within the development process of all drums to closely fine tune sizing versus materials; a technique they call Optimum Shell Measurements (OSM). Thus, Sonor shells are actually slightly smaller in diameter than the specified size allowing the skins to resonate optimally.
The Sonor connoisseur has already figured it out, of course; this Beech Kompressor is more or less a stripped down version of the Benny Greb Beech signature snare drum. So no fancy figured birch outer shell, no built-in dampers and the regular Sonor throw-off, but basically both snare drums have a birch shell. However, the Kompressor's shell is thicker (and in this version also different in size) and thus the sound is really different; just as rich and complex as the Benny Greb beech, but it's a bit louder and captures the character of beech wood. This is a real all-rounder with its own personality!
