The RME Digiface AES from RME is a 14x16 digital USB audio interface with 30x16 routing capabilities and extensive functionality.

The Digiface AES features high-end studio quality 24-bit / 192 kHz digital audio with an advanced SRC circuit (sample-rate converter). The SRC solves clock problems and can adjust the sample rate on any digital input. Control of these functions is easy via the LCD screen with intuitive interface.

The Digiface AES features a variety of analog and digital I/O to handle any scenario, including 8-channel optical ADAT or 6-channel optical SPDIF, 6-channel coaxial SPDIF, AES/EBU over XLR 3-pin, MIDI I/O, two channels of analog combo XLR/1/4" input with selectable 48V phantom power, and four channels of analog output via XLR line outs and stereo 1/4" headphone output. all powered to a host program via USB 2.0.

With an exceptional set of digital features, including built-in parametric EQ, independent control and flexible playback or monitoring via TotalMix FX, the DigiFace AES excels as an ideal all-in-one solution for recording, routing and playback of analog or digital sources in studio or stage applications.

Analog I/O performance
For the main inputs, RME uses the familiar microphone/line preamps (XLR combo inputs) from the Babyface Pro FS. Two digitally controlled preamps provide individually switchable 48V phantom power. These circuits have a gain range of up to 75 dB, adjustable in 1 dB increments, including a relay-controlled PAD, which results in exceptional EIN performance and line overload protection and provides more than enough gain for even the most low-level microphones (e.g., ribbon or classics).
At the rear of the Digiface AES are 2 balanced analog outputs via XLR male to drive power amplifiers, active monitor speakers or recordings. The headphone output allows additional and independent high quality monitoring, with sufficient output power and volume for both high and low impedance headphones.

Digital input and output connectivity
The comprehensive set of digital I/Os, centered around an AES/EBU input and output via XLR, also includes SPDIF coaxial, SPDIF optical or 8-channel ADAT. All I/Os can be used simultaneously!
An integrated SRC (Sample Rate Converter) can be switched to any of the three inputs to solve possible clock problems and adapt to other sample rates. This allows the unit, for example, to be AES-clock synchronous with a main source while listening independently to S/PDIF. You can use MIDI I/O via the included breakout cable.

Stand-alone functionality
All functions of the interface are easily controlled from the front panel. Four keys, the encoder, the bright high-resolution color display and a thoughtful menu structure make quick changes and configuration of the device easy. Six different setups can be stored in the internal memory. These setups transform the interface into totally different devices at the simple touch of a button, which is especially convenient in standalone mode. In addition, TotalMix FX can also be controlled externally via MIDI.

Powerful applications for mixing and monitoring
The RME Digiface AES includes the powerful real-time mixer TotalMix FX. This allows completely independent routing and mixing of input and playback channels to all physical outputs. Independent stereo submixes plus an expanded Control Room section provide unparalleled monitoring capabilities and very extensive routing flexibility.
TotalMix Remote allows you to remotely control RME interfaces via iOS, PC or Mac. This is a simple setup process - just enter the IP address of the computer you want to control with TotalMix Remote and get started. You can adjust every aspect of TotalMix FX on a host system while walking through the studio with your tablet or e.g. from your control room.
