Sonor Protean Gavin Harrison Signature Snare 14x5,25", Standard Edition

Long-time Sonor endorser, Porcupine Tree's Gavin Harrison, and Sonor came together to develop the Protean Signature snare drum. The result is not only a very good sounding snare, but also a very all-round snare that will please not only the technical rock drummer, but also the vintage enthusiast.

Here are the facts;
The Protean snare drum comes in two sizes: 14 "x5.25" or 12 "x5". In both cases, the shell is made of full premium hand selected birch. Then there are various cool details and quite some technology to mention.
For starters, the shell is finished with hybrid bearing edges; vintage style round bearing edge on the top for a larger contact-surface with the batter, but 45 degree bearing edge on the bottom through which the snare gets its bright crisp and articulation from. A similar hybrid combination is applied in the choice of hoops. At the top, the snare features an S-Hoop for an ultra low rim that also holds the included damper rings in place. The throw-off / butt-end combination is the ingenious Dual Glide snare strainer system; a quick release system that allows very easy on-the-spot removal of the snarewires in total without losing the set tension of the strainers. The vintage phonic lugs not only look great, but also add more mass to the snare and evenly distribute the "stress" on the lugs and the shell at high rim tensions. The Protean snare comes standard with a Remo Control Sound Coated batter head.

All this makes this snare very all round in its application (from short, crips and bright, to warm, mellow and vintage) but above all a rock solid built drum with smart features that serves all the needs of the pro drummer.
