The Performance Series is handcrafted with North American maple by DW in the California custom shop. Bearing all the hallmarks of custom drums, the Performance Series features HVX shell construction which produces warm and punchy fundamental with resonance and projection to spare. This snare drum features a 10-ply shell, quarter lugs, a 45-degree back-cut bearing edge, MAG throw-off, and TruePitch tuning tension rods.
North American Maple Shells
All Performance Series shells are built with DW’s patented HVX technique, which features 100% Maple plies with grains oriented in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal patterns for low, punchy fundamentals.
HVX shells
are a proprietary shell construction technology that uses a combination of horizontally, vertically, and diagonally (X) oriented plies of North American Hard Rock Maple. This layering technique creates a drum shell with a low, punchy fundamental tone, ample resonance, and projection, making it versatile for live and studio use. Different ply counts are used for different drums, such as 8-ply for tom and bass drums (8" toms are 7-ply) and 10-ply for snares.
Bearing Edge
HVX shells are precision-cut with 45-degree (toms) and 60-degree (bass and snare) edges. These edges provide tonality and sustain from your toms, and depth and punch from your bass and snare.
Finishes
From FinishPly to hand-sprayed lacquer or satin oil, all DW kits can be customized with finishes to make it yours.
