This Solid Japanes Cedar snaredrum is perhaps one of the most unique in the Star Reserve collection so far. Not only is this a gorgeous snaredrum but it also holds many "bells and wistles" in terms of features on a snaredrum.
Perhaps its main attraction, is the solid cedar shell that is processed with a unique traditional Japanese woodworking technique (called "Uzukuri") where the softer grains of the wood are brushed away from the surface with a Uzukuri polishing brush. After this process, the shell is oiled, emphasizing the grains structure and 3-dimensional appearance of the outer layer. Truelly stunning! It took Tama's craftsmen many years to get this technique right.
The solid shell has a thickness of 8 mm with inner sound focus rings and a hybrid round / 45 degrees bearing edge. Cedar is a light and soft tonewood that offers a dynamically bright, powerful, yet focused and mellow sound due to its construction. The hoops are Tama Customized Brass Mighty hoops which provide a rich palet of overtones. And finally, the bell brass snare wires make for a great sensitivety.
For the strainer and end-butt, this snaredrum is fitted with Tama's linear driver system (MLS50A strainer / MLS50B end-butt).
